We took our lines for a walk and here are our paintings. If you want to hear our line walk adventures come to Arts & Technology Night on May 18th and scan the QR code on display with our paintings to watch a video of us in front of the green screen. We'll tell you all about our stories!

The self portrait on the left is was drawn during the first few weeks of school. The self portrait on the right was drawn today. Can you see the difference? We sure can!
We mixed different colored tempera paints together and made a circle mural. Starting in the center of a circle we added on layer by layer with new colors we mixed especially for this artwork. Our large, colorful creation was cut down and used for our pinch pot display. Did you see the sneak peek of our finished pinchpots? In first grade, we're feeling very patriotic! We studied the American flag. We learned how each star represents one of our fifty states. We learned how each stripe represents one of our thirteen original colonies. The colors can mean so many things to us- including bravery, perseverance, and purity.
We are transforming paper plates into works of art. We created patterns using markers on both sides of our plate. A pattern is something that repeats and alternates. Then we cut the plate into a spiral. Before we cut the plate it was flat and two-dimensional. After we cut the plate it popped out and was three-dimensional. Take a look!
October has been a month of learning new techniques with paint, scissors, and paper! These spooky techniques have been haunting our art room. We made spiderwebs and learned how to bleed our watercolors together. We folded and cut out a bat's wings to make them symmetrical. We pinched, snipped, and cut out the eyes and mouths of our ghosts. Our ghosts tried to disappear beneath our papers, but we made a chalk rubbing of them and now they can't scare us! We used curving lines to make the ridges on our pumpkin drawings look three dimensional. We drew many pumpkins with different details and chose our favorite one to make BIG! Spooky things are happening this October!
