We're in the final stretch! After we glaze our clay animals, they'll be fired in the kiln once more. The glaze will deepen in color and become glossy. Can't wait to see the final piece? Good news! Art night is very close. Come and see our clay creations on display-Tuesday, May 6th at 6 p.m.!
Here's a gallery of fourth grade's Square 1 art projects. We chose our initials, a name, or a meaningful word for our subject. Next we made designs focusing on detail, color, and contrast to create these works of art:
Fourth graders are creating their own Rangoli designs. Rangoli is a folk art common during the Hindu festival of Diwali. People use paste from rice flour or crushed stone to paint floors, walls, and doorsteps in bold, colorful patterns. Our version of these symmetrical designs are hand drawn and then colored in with sand. Students pinch sand and sprinkle it on glue covered shapes. The result is a shimmering centralized pattern with bold colors. Gallery images coming soon! Pinwheels for Peace is a project started in 2005 by a few art teachers in Florida. An art teacher friend of mine continues the project making pinwheels for peace with her middle school students. These pinwheels are to celebrate International Peace Day this year which was on September 21st. For more information on this project please visit the original website: http://www.pinwheelsforpeace.com/pinwheelsforpeace/the_project.html. At Pine Glen, fourth grade students reflected on peace as a state of being and a way of living. Students drew from personal experience to create their drawings and wishes for peace on their pinwheels. Want to make your own? Use this template to get you started:http://www.pinwheelsforpeace.com/pinwheelsforpeace/pinwheel_template.html
We used pipe-cleaners (cut in half) in the place of pins. A pencil can be your base. Sharpen the end and you can put it in the ground and watch the wind spin. |
